Getting Around
Muoversi
The best way to experience Genova is on foot â and from our door, almost everything worth seeing is a short walk away. The Spianata di Castelletto belvedere is about 5 minutes down the hill. The centro storico and Piazza De Ferrari are about a 15-minute walk down, the elegant Via Garibaldi and its palaces about 10 minutes, and the Porto Antico and Aquarium around 20. Wear comfortable shoes â the streets are stone and Genova is built on hills â and don't be afraid to get a little lost in the caruggi. That's how you find the best corners.
Genova is famous for the public lifts that climb its hills, and you have a beautiful one right nearby: the historic Ascensore di Castelletto. It carries you down to the centre in moments. Buy your ticket from the machines next to the lift and remember to stamp it before you ride â inspectors check fairly often.
For longer distances, there are the AMT buses. A single ticket is âŹ2 and you can buy it at a tabaccheria or right on board with a contactless card. The handiest line from our area is bus 36, which connects us down toward the city centre.
For day trips along the coast, take the regional train from Genova Piazza Principe or Brignole. Camogli is about 25 minutes, Santa Margherita and Portofino a little further, and the Cinque Terre around 90 minutes â all easy, affordable rides. To check times and book tickets, use Trenitalia. To reach the station from us, hop on bus 36.
A little tip from a local: keep your step counter on while you're here. Genova is all stairs, climbs and hidden descents, and by the end of the day the number always surprises my guests. Wear it like a badge of honour.
